The Kentucky State University Division of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the launching of Legacy2Legacy. According to divisional chairperson, Dr. Roosevelt Shelton, Legacy2Legacy is an educational and outreach initiative designed to connect the university’s divisional students, as well as community high school participants, with the rich and extended legacy of the institution’s programs in the Fine Arts (Music, Art and Theater). It is anticipated that the initiative will serve as a national model of intrusive mentorship by connecting aspiring artists and musicians with distinguished divisional alumni to address various challenges to the professions, including the selection of career pathways and overcoming the impediments to realizing their individual aspirations.
The initiative will additionally recognize and honor one of those alumni each year, through his/her presentation of the Legacy2Legacy Lecture on the campus of Kentucky State University. The first honoree after much consideration is Mr. Reginald Calloway, a five-time Grammy-nominated Legacy. Reginald founded and led of one of the most popular Techno-funk bands in the 80’s, Midnight Star. Since then he has written for and worked with N’Sync, Teddy Pendergrass, Gladys Night and Natalie Cole among many others. More recently, he Co-Founded the Royalty Exchange, a music industry auction house that provides monetization options for music industry professionals who have royalties. Additionally, Royalty Exchange works with national charities like The Fender Music Foundation to help get instruments in the hands of kids who don’t have access to them.
Mr. Calloway will provide the initial lecture and engagements on the campus of Kentucky State University on October 16 and 17, 2014. Individuals or groups wishing to attend may register for the events at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/QJZRVFN
