Recap of "An Evening with Ray Kennedy and Friends" by board member Gina Atton-Thomas

On March 14, 2006, The Guitar Center Music Foundation held its first charity concert and silent auction entitled "An Evening with Ray Kennedy and Friends" at the Avalon in Hollywood, Calif. The concert included performances by some of rock's greatest: Macy Gray, The Dave Mason Band, Mick Fleetwood, The Syn, California Transit Authority, as well as Gia Ciambotti and The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. The all-star band 16:9, consisting of today's hottest television actors Hugh Laurie (House), Greg Grunberg (Alias and Felicity), James Denton (Desperate Housewives) and Bob Guiney (The Bachelor), also rocked the house and had the women dancing as close to the stage as they could get.

The illustrious Ray Kennedy who has played with The Babies, The Beach Boys and Aerosmith (to name a few) hosted the show, preformed on stage, and led intimate interviews for a television pilot entitled "In One Room With Ray Kennedy." These private interviews were attended exclusively by the first fifty ticket buyers and included talks with Macy Gray, Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton and his wife Tracie, Danny Seraphine (drummer from Chicago, now in CTA), Chris Squire (bass player from Yes, now in The SYN), Allen White (drummer from Yes, now in The SYN) and television actors Greg Grunburg, James Denton, Bob Guiney and Hugh Laurie.

The silent auction was a huge success and gave patrons at the concert an opportunity to buy music memorabilia, a motorcycle, signed guitars by artists such as Zakk Wylde and New Found Glory and signed sports memorabilia to add to their home collections. Guitar Center's Music Foundation founder Larry Thomas was honored to present Macy Gray's music school, The M. Gray Music Academy, with a donation from revenues raised from the concert and the silent auction.

We at Guitar Center Music Foundation would like to thank Mr. Jon Lyons for generously opening the doors to his Avalon Hollywood club so this very special event could occur. Many thanks also go to Copper Dallas and Angela for their hard work and contribution to an incredible evening of Music interviews, auction opportunities and great fun. We would also like to thank all the musicians who so generously gave their time and talent.
